Ingredients:

4 Large tart apples, cored
1/2 C. apple juice
8 Tbsp brown sugar
12 Red-Hot candies
4 Tbsp butter or margarine
8 caramels
1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon

Procedure:

Peel 3/4 inch off the top of each apple and place in slow cooker. Pour apple juice over apples. Fill the center of each apple with 2 Tbsp sugar, 3 candies, 1Tbsp of butter and 2 caramels. Sprinkle with cinnamon.

Cover and cook on low for 4-6 hours or until apples are tender. May serve immediately with whipped cream if desired.  Makes 4 servings.

Ingredients:

4 qts. unsweetened applesauce
7 C. granulated sugar
1-1/3 C. brown sugar
5-1/3 T. cider vinegar
5-1/3 T. lemon juice
2 teaspoon. cinnamon
2 teaspoon. allspice
1 teaspoon. ground cloves

Procedure:

Combine all ingredients in a slow cooker and cover and cook 3 hours, stirring occasionally. Remove lid and continue cooking until excess liquid cooks down (turn to low if necessary). Cook for 5-8 hours. After cooking, seal apple mixture in hot jars and process in a hot water bath for a minimum of ten minutes. Or, seal tightly and store in refrigerator for up to one week. This recipe makes approximately 8-10 pints of apple butter, so if you don’t plan to use it immediately, share with friends and have them use it within the week.
